Matt Wilson
(Guitar Instructor)
Brief info
Matt Wilson’s love of the guitar began in the 1990s while growing up in Omaha, Nebraska—but music has been part of his life for as long as he can remember. Raised in a family that valued music and expression, Matt found early inspiration through his brother Richard, an accomplished banjo player, and his grandfathers—Lyle Wilson, a guitarist who introduced Matt to the music of Chet Atkins, and J.M. Hanks, a gifted multi-instrumentalist. Their influence helped shape his lifelong passion for music.
Some of Matt’s earliest memories include hearing his mother sing and listening to his father’s record collection—Elvis, Chuck Berry, and the great rock pioneers. A live B.B. King concert later ignited his deep love for the blues and set him on a musical path that continues to this day.
Matt has performed in local bands throughout the Midwest and later in Texas, calling Houston and Austin home for several years. As both a performer and instructor, he plays and teaches guitar. His hands-on experience as an instrument repair technician adds to his understanding and respect for the craft behind every guitar he plays.
As an educator, Matt’s greatest joy is helping students reach those “light bulb” moments—when everything clicks, and their connection to music truly takes shape. His teaching style focuses on creativity, confidence, and developing a genuine love for the instrument.
Matt holds an MBA and brings a thoughtful, balanced approach to his teaching and performing. His favorite guitar is his Gibson ES-355, and he has an enduring fascination with the sound and character of vintage tube amplifiers.
